Affiliate FAQ

How do I know these companies will pay me for the customers I send them?
Most sites work through CCBill, so your traffic is tracked by them.  Sites that don't, such as Penthouse, use NATS and other third party tracking methods to insure all of your traffic is credited to you. We have heard of some companies that don't pay their bills, but we can say that we have not had any problems with the merchants we have links for here. We run numerous affiliate sites and blogs, we pick and choose the merchants we want to promote, and we can remove any merchant we choose to for any reason.

Keeping that in mind, if the merchants we have links for here didn't pay us for the sales and referrals that come from our sites, their links wouldn't be here!

Does it cost me any money to be an affiliate?
No. Affiliate programs are free. If you come across one that does want you to pay for anything, DON'T. It's probably a scam.

Do I have to host the banners and pics?
Some merchants host their own banners, such as Adam & Eve and sexToysex,  but you will have to host most of the adult sites banners. The pics we use here are all hosted by the merchant, so as you can see, there is a lot of good content available for you to use without taking up space on your server.

Why are the free sex toy websites free?
It doesn't cost the merchants anything to create an online store for you. Then, if you bring in sales, you both make money. It's a win - win situation for you both.

Do I have to deal with customers?
No. With an affiliate program, the merchants handle everything. You're like an advertising agency that is paid on commission.  Your only job is to bring in the customers.

How much can I make?
SexToysex reports that they pay their top person over $50,000 per month. While this is not typical, affiliates do make money with their websites and blogs. The Passions Unchained family of websites are all affiliate sites, and if they didn't make us money, you wouldn't be here reading this now. While adding one or two links to a free blog may not make you enough money each month to retire on, what you do make is free income.

This is not a get rich quick scheme.  Like anything else that is legitimate, the more effort you put in it, the more money you will make.

Can I get more information from each merchant before I sign up?
Yes! Most sites have information in the webmasters area. The links we provide take you to the appropriate page where you can read about the merchant's affiliate program. To get even more information and to see their banners and other tools, just sign up and check them out. Some sites have an administration area with instructions, marketing tips, and even a toll free number for support.

What if I sign up as an affiliate and I don't like what the company has has to offer?
Then move on to the next merchant. Even after you sign up, you aren't required to do anything. Affiliate marketing is like running your own advertising agency, but on a commission basis. The merchant isn't paying you unless you make a sale, and there's no contract that requires you to add any of their links. This arrangement is preferable to paid ads because you aren't obligated to promote any merchant, or keep their links up if you find they aren't what you expected. We've signed up with numerous programs only to find they didn't offer our traffic what we require of our merchants, so we simply canceled our affiliation with them in favor of the sites that do meet our requirements.

Will they ask for a credit card to verify my age?
No, and we wouldn't trust a site that does. Unless you have an EIN number (EIN: Employer Identification Number or TIN: Tax Identification Number, it's all the same thing) you will have to provide your social security number. This is required by the government since a legitimate merchant has to report your earnings. Any site that doesn't ask for your SS or EIN probably isn't going to pay you. If you're worried about giving out your social security number online, you can get a free EIN online at the official IRS website (http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html). It's easier than it use to be too. No more need to file a Form SS-4. They ask you the questions and you give them the answers. After all validations are done you will get your EIN immediately.

What do I need to get started?
A  website or a blog. Although many affiliates work only through email, this isn't recommended. Because of the anti-SPAM laws, most companies will not work with an affiliate that doesn't have a legitimate website URL, and there are some companies that will not accept affiliates with only a free site or free blog.  In all honesty, you'll make more sales and have more control over a website you own than a free web site, and you can't get your own web site deleted like you can a free web site or free blog.

Hosting Adult Content

If you want to add any pictures of naked men or women, or you want to add links to sites that contain adult content, it can become complicated... and expensive!

To start an adult website, or affiliate with companies that have adult content and to make the most of your efforts, you will need a hosting company that allows adult content.  Many hosting companies won't even allow links to sex toy stores like Adam and Eve, so even if you're only interested in banners or links for sex toys and you're not going to have nudity or adult galleries, you'll still need a hosting service that allows adult content.

Before getting any site to promote adult material, ALWAYS ask if they will host adult content.  Don't take the chance and tell them you'll only have links for sex toys.  It doesn't matter.  Adult content is adult content in many states, and depending on what state the hosting service is in, even links for sex toys can get your site deleted.

Tell them up front you want to host adult contend, including content that qualifies as porn.   Most companies that don't allow adult content will be honest and say no, but some may be evasive.  Some hosting companies are actually resellers, not the actual hosting company. While we have nothing against this, we do have a problem with people that aren't up front about what they can and can't do.

If the sales rep says something like 'It shouldn't be a problem' or 'What they don't don't know won't hurt them' (we've heard these before) it WILL be a problem, and YOU will be the one that gets hurt.

Get a definite and unmistakable YES before you sign up.

Legitimate hosting companies that do allow adult material will say so. Others will hope you'll sign up and not get your site deleted before they get paid.  There's no sense in throwing your money and hard work away to end up getting your website deleted a few months down the road.

We also know that many hosting companies use gimmicks like giving you a free domain name.  DON'T FALL FOR THIS... IT'S PROBABLY A GIMMICK!  

If a hosting company 'gives' you the domain name for free, it still has to be registered, and they are the ones registering it.  This means that they are the one that actually owns the domain name, NOT YOU.  If you want to switch servers, they will most likely hijack the domain name and sell it.  Just go to a company like Go Daddy and register your own domain name, then go to Hostgator  and choose the hosing plan that best suits your needs to get your web site up and running.

Why HostGator?  We checked out a LOT of hosting services, and we know many of the ones that allow adult content can be very expensive.  Some of the ones we checked out wanted up to $500 a month to host adult content!   Others would agree to host adult content, but you were on your own as far as technical support.  Some companies could only be contacted by email, so you know you'll never talk to a live person if you have a problem.
