So, is our list REALLY the final and
definitive list of the top ten sexual fantasies for men and women?

A 'multiple choice' format can severely limit the amount of detail in a
fantasy, and again result in misinterpretation as to exactly what a
particular fantasy entails. When a multiple choice poll or survey lists
'Being Dominated' as one of the possible answers you can choose,
everyone filling in the poll doesn't view being dominated as the same
thing. The term 'Being Dominated' is far too general. Some people think
being dominated specifically refers to a BDSM fantasy, while others
think it means forced sex, and some people think being dominated, BDSM
and forced sex are the same thing. Some people fantasize about having
their lover tie them up and have sex with them, but consider the term
'being dominated' to include being whipped, spanked, or having some
other form of pain inflicted, which may not interest them. These people
would not choose being dominated as their fantasy, even though being
tied up would be considered being dominated by some. As you can see, the
questions would have to be extremely detailed to be considered
definitive.

The third flaw is the unfortunate fact that not all of the
surveys/polls/top ten lists/articles we read said how they gathered
their information (online poll, face to face interviews, group
interviews etc.), and some didn't provide the number of people that were
interviewed or replied to a poll.
Because this valuable information was left out, we weren't able to get
an accurate count of how many people total participated overall. We do
know the numbers were well into the thousands from the information we
did have, and the fantasies listed numbered into the hundreds, but we
don't know how many of those thousands of people may have provided input
to more than one poll/survey/interview. We will be the first to admit
that this does leave large margin for error, but rather than limit our
research to including only those polls/surveys/interviews that did give
the exact number of respondents and the method used to collect data, we
felt the odds of the same people providing input to all of the different
top ten lists we examined was astronomical. It goes without saying that
the more people that reply to a survey, the more accurate the results
are, so we felt that including the data from the lists that didn't give
the total number of respondents represents a larger and more diverse
group of people, and thereby gives a more accurate representation of the
general population.
So as you can see, unless you have unlimited resources (and unlimited
funds) to hire qualified personnel from around the globe, or even around
the country to interview as much of the population as physically
possible, you are going to have some level of interpretation (and error)
when it comes to what a persons number one sexual fantasy actually is. |
