If you've read very many "Top Ten
Sexual Fantasy" surveys, the first thing you'll notice is
that the number one sexual fantasy is always... different.
Why? Because different
websites/magazines/books and other publications each attract a
slightly different type of reader, so while most of the
fantasies are similar, the number one sexual fantasy for the
readers of a magazine such as Cosmopolitan or Self is usually
going to be different than the number one sexual fantasy for
readers of Penthouse or Hustler magazine.
In addition to a different type
of reader, or the demographics for the publications that have
top ten fantasy lists, other factors that can result in
different fantasies being ranked as number one can include
academics, theoretical orientations, or even target audiences.
Masters and Johnson say that a
rape or forced sex fantasy for women is second only to
fantasizing about sex with a different partner.
Author Nancy Friday, the
diligent collector of female fantasies (My Secret Garden,
Forbidden Flowers) says a rape fantasy for women is
second to none.
In a survey of dozens of
academic research articles on sexual fantasy, psychologists
Harold Leitenberg and Kris Henning found Having sex with your
current partner as the number one sexual fantasy, and being
forced or overpowered, or overpowering someone ranked number
three.
Geography also has an effect on the number one fantasy of men
and women as well. 'Today The Age' (Melbourne) ran an unsigned
Agence France Presse item that stated in a poll of 1818 adults
conducted by Budget Van Insurance, nurses and firemen dominate
the sexual fantasies of men and women in Britain.
A survey about sexual fantasies with a target audience will have
specific rather than overall results. You can't apply the
results of a poll about sexual fantasies taken from single
college students in their twenties to married men and women in
their forties.
So with the demographics, geographics, academics, theoretical
orientations, target audiences, and any other influences set
aside, how do you get down to the knitty gritty and know what
men's and women's number one sexual fantasy REALLY is?
We wanted to know that answer ourselves, so rather than conduct
another survey, we took what we felt was the logical route to
finding out what the definitive top ten sexual fantasies of men
and women are:
Like Leitenberg and Henning, we gathered our information from
existing sources.
Unlike Leitenberg and Henning, we didn't limit our data to
academic research articles on sexual fantasy.
We collected articles, surveys, polls, top ten lists of sexual
fantasies... whatever we could get from wherever we could get it
regardless of what type of publication they appeared in.
We wanted to create a data base that represented a wide of a
variety of sources, and a wide variety of respondents.
Once we had all of the data we could handle, we compiled it into
one, collective list of the top ten sexual fantasies for men and
women, combined all the answers into one list (the easy part),
then sorted through all the data (the not so easy part), to come
up with what we call "The Definitive Top Ten Sexual
Fantasies for Men and Women".
